Overview

This position sits within our Product Development division, which develops, tests, and improves our software solutions in an innovative and collaborative environment.

 

The Opportunity

A Manager, Quality Engineering is a thoughtful, proactive leader that supports our delivery of high-value, high-quality software by providing tactical and strategic support to SDET’s (Software Development Engineers in Test) and QSE’s (Quality Support Engineers).  This includes collaborating with peers to identify and implement organizational improvements; eliminating roadblocks; coaching, mentoring and developing the careers of multiple direct reports; drive accountability through results; and assisting the VP, QE in successful achievement of Product Development goals. 

Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Be passionate, stay current, and advocate for best practices in quality assurance practices and test automation.  Have a passion for driving innovation and quality in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Define and implement organizational quality standards.  Prioritize technical innovation and excellence.  Identify and drive organizational improvement, leveraging regular data and metrics analysis.
  • Gain a deep understanding of ConstructConnect products and strategy to facilitate effective collaboration with peers. Translate business objectives into technical strategies, design, and priorities that ensure alignment with the company's goals, as well as with enterprise and department visions.
  • Empower teams while maintaining active involvement in understanding priorities, implemented solutions, and ensuring adherence to standards. Provide effective coaching and mentoring to team members and take accountability for maintaining quality standards.
  • Develop a sense of ownership over the system quality and performance within your teams.
  • Promote Agile practices and team collaboration with a focus on teams owning quality and performance. This includes proactively supporting opportunities to blend the SDET and Software engineering roles through cross training and Extreme Programming (XP) methodologies.
  • Help your team to improve their performance, and the quality of their work through regular positive and constructive coaching.  Help team members develop and progress in their career journey by planning, providing resources that align with their goals, support, and feedback.  Proactively engage in production incidents, providing leadership support.  Ensure effective root cause analysis is performed and preventative improvements are implemented. 
  • Ensure we are staffed appropriately and have the right skillset among employees and contractors to meet future needs.  This includes interviewing and onboarding new employees and contractors.

Qualifications

What you Bring to the Team

  • BS degree in Computer Sciences, programming or a related discipline or demonstrable equivalent experience 
  • 6+ years professional experience working with modern quality engineering tools, languages, and practices
  • 1+ years professional experience managing and leading multiple teams of technical professionals
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and mentor fully remote teams of quality engineers, while continuing to develop best practices in software testing
  • Deep understanding of software quality engineering and testing, automation, as well as a passion for driving innovation and quality in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Capable of mentoring SDETs and providing them with technical as well as professional guidance
  • Experience with short release cycles and working with a product that has been released for public consumption
  • Expert understanding in modern software testing practices including Exploratory Testing, declarative grammar, Behavior Driven Development or Acceptance Test Driven Development
  • Expert understanding of Object-Oriented Programming Principles, Data Structures, and Algorithms
  • Expert understanding of Agile processes and workflow
  • Practical experience in test automation in one or more disciplines including functional/UI, performance, API, unit, etc.
  • Hands-on expertise in ALM systems and test case management systems (Jira and Zephyr preferred)
  • Proficiency at database interaction through SQL and other related tools
  • Practical experience with collaborating on feature work through the entire lifecycle from product envisioning through post-release support
  • Capable of leading the interview process for prospective team members
  • Capable of having detailed discussions about product implementation 
  • Capable of providing product insight to better understand feature feasibility and required implementation effort
  • Ability to collaborate with developers on architectural-level issues such as data flows, exception handling, and resiliency
  • High proficiency in technical problem solving, to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Team player with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task efficiently
  • Sound business ethics, including the protection of proprietary and confidential information
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to analyze situations, identify existing or potential problems and recommend solutions 
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Experience working with Google Cloud Platform preferred

 Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The physical activities of this position include frequent sitting, telephone communication, working on a computer for extended periods of time. Visual acuity is required to perform activities close to the eyes.  
  • This position is fully remote with only occasional travel to the office for team meetings and events. Team members are expected to have an established workspace.  
  • Ability to work remotely in the United States or Canada.
