Overview

The Opportunity

 

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Systems Engineer II to join our team. In this role, you will take on a more advanced level of responsibility, assisting in the design, implementation, optimization, and management of complex IT systems. You will have the opportunity to lead system initiatives, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and enhance the performance and reliability of our infrastructure. You’ll also mentor junior engineers and drive efforts to troubleshoot and resolve high-priority system issues.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of IT systems and infrastructure, with a focus on improving overall system performance.
  • Configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and support hardware and software components for a portfolio of applications across the organization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess system requirements and ensure effective system integration. 
  • Plan and execute system testing, validation, and performance tuning to maintain optimal functionality.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of detailed system documentation, procedures, network diagrams, and technical reports.
  • Take a proactive approach to system incident management, resolution, and post-mortem analysis.
  • Oversee system upgrades, patching, and implementation of security enhancements.
  • Collaborate with vendors and internal teams on IT projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines and technical requirements.
  • Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on technical issues, troubleshooting, and system design.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of automation strategies using system monitoring and automation tools.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and best practices to drive system improvements.
  • Engage in team activities, meetings, and other collaborative efforts in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

What You Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in systems engineering, IT support, or a similar technical role, with an increasing level of responsibility.
  • Expertise in operating systems (Windows, Linux) and extensive experience in managing enterprise-level IT systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking protocols and services (TCP/IP, DNS, VPN, Firewalls, etc.).
  • Significant hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Advanced competence in scripting and automation (Python, Bash, PowerShell, Terraform).
  • Expertise with virtualization and containerization (VMware, Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, threat mitigation, and security best practices.
  • Experience with system monitoring and automation tools, and the ability to lead system optimization efforts.
  • Experienced to Agile methodologies (Kanban, SAFe).
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical skills.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • The physical activities of this position include frequent sitting, telephone communication, and extended periods working on a computer. Visual acuity is required for close-up tasks.
  • This position is hybrid, requiring occasional travel to the office for team meetings, data center initiatives, and other events. Team members must have an established workspace.
  • Ability to work hybrid within the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky area.
