The Opportunity

ConstructConnect is transforming its data landscape to support modern SaaS and analytics workloads on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). The Database Engineer II plays a key role in this effort, supporting the design, optimization, and automation of database infrastructure and services that power internal tools and customer-facing applications. You will work with software engineers, DevOps, and platform teams to deliver performant, resilient, and secure data systems that align with domain-driven architecture and cloud-native engineering practices.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Support day-to-day database operations and service requests across cloud-native (e.g., Cloud SQL, AlloyDB) and legacy SQL Server environments.
  • Write and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models in support of software and data product teams.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers to implement scalable, low-latency database services aligned to OLTP and analytical workload requirements.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for schema migrations using tools such as Liquibase or Flyway.
  • Contribute to the automation of database provisioning, monitoring, and security hardening using Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform).
  • Diagnose and resolve performance issues, using telemetry tools to identify slow queries, inefficient indexing, or capacity bottlenecks.
  • Support ETL pipelines and real-time data movement in cloud-native environments, working closely with data engineering.
  • Document and maintain operational runbooks, architecture decisions, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Partner with principal engineers and the Enterprise Architecture organization to design reusable patterns and blueprints for common database workloads.
  • Learn and apply AI technologies: Gain familiarity with AI tools and frameworks to assist in GTM Systems tasks.
  • This job description in no way implies that the duties listed here are the only ones that team members can be required to perform.

Qualifications

What You Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of professional experience working with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or other relational databases.
  • Solid knowledge of writing and tuning SQL queries, views, and stored procedures.
  • Understanding of data modeling principles and indexing strategies to support performance and scalability.
  • Exposure to database automation and CI/CD practices using tools such as Git, Liquibase, Flyway, or similar.
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform) is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development processes and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Basic understanding of cloud database concepts (e.g., Cloud SQL, managed backups, IAM).
  • Willingness to learn and contribute to observability and operational excellence through tools like Cloud Monitoring or OpenTelemetry.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a methodical approach to root cause analysis.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with a team-first mindset.
